Beat the Cube – that was the goal of “THE CUBE”. For 14 years, from 2009 to 2021, the participants in the British TV show had to complete physical and mental tasks in order to leave the 4 × 4 × 4 metre cubes. The more cubes they beat, the higher the prize money. To this day, the fascination with the game concept remains unbroken. Since 2022, anyone can test whether they have what it takes to become THE CUBE Champion. Following the first live-experience venue in Manchester, a second THE CUBE opened in London in 2024. For the planning and installation of the multi-zone sound system, the global in-store music provider and AV integrator Imagesound relied on a large number of speakers from LD Systems. A total of 56 ICOA® 12 coaxial 12″ loudspeakers and 17 CURV® 500 I SUB 10″ installation subwoofers are spread over three floors at THE CUBE London. For the cubes on the playing areas, Imagesound used the SAT 242 G2 2 x 4″ installation loudspeakers to ensure that game announcements, sound effects and music are presented clearly and with lots of punch – both inside for the game participants and outside for the spectators. On 17 February, renowned US sound artist Max Eilbacher and German DJ and composer Phillip Sollmann took the stage of the Neuer Aachener Kunstverein and opened their collaborative sound installation “Kalkül der Form”. The optical and acoustic framework was provided by eight LD Systems MAUI P900 column PA systems, which created an immersive sound space for the visitors and embodied the symbiotic union of sound and space. The event technology service provider JOY event & media from Aachen was responsible for setting up and installing the MAUI P900 on site. The sound of the MAUI P900 perfectly supported our vision for ‘Kalkül der Form’ and created a soundscape that exceeded our expectations. Phillip Sollmann – DJ, composer, sound artist “Kalkül der Form” consists of two interwoven compositions that sound simultaneously as “long durational pieces” and together form an immersive sound installation that extends over two rooms and floors. The function of the speakers used differs fundamentally. On his YouTube channel, his fans can see where the Dutch-born musician is and where he is setting up his mobile street music gear. Alongside his looper system, the blues fan always has a MAUI 5 GO from LD Systems with him. Recently, Markus’ travels brought him to Neu-Anspach, to the Adam Hall Group’s Experience Center. In addition to giving him a tour of the development departments and enjoying a spontaneous gig in our “Come Together” restaurant, we were also curious to see what the passionate street musician thought of our mobile ANNY series… Markus, you can be seen performing all over the world on your YouTube channel.
